Post Retirement Earnings Limitations Have Been Reintroduced – January 4, 2023

The post retirement earnings limitation waiver that had been in effect since the early days of the pandemic has expired as of December 31, 2022.  As a result, the hour and earnings limitations rules have been reintroduced for superannuation retirees who have returned to work in the public sector.

Post-retirement employment cannot exceed employment in excess of 1,200 hours in a calendar year, nor can any compensation from a city, town, the Commonwealth or any of it’s subdivisions, when added to a retiree’s retirement allowance, exceed the salary currently being paid for the position from which they retired, plus $15,000.

Adherence to the post-retirement restrictions in any calendar year is the responsibility of the employee and the employer.

If you are currently a retiree of the Town of North Attleboro and have any questions, please contact the Retirement Board directly.

Current guidelines for working and receiving a superannuation retirement are available on the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC) site.
