Town of North Attleborough Shares Updated Winter Parking Ban Policy

The Town of North Attleborough announces that it has updated its winter parking ban policy to allow vehicles to park overnight without restrictions as of December 1. Under the new policy, parking bans will only be enforced during impending winter storms, whereas they previously were enforced from December 1 through March 31.

The parking ban will be activated by the Emergency Advisory Board (EAB) when the anticipated snowfall accumulation reaches or exceeds 4 inches of snow; when icy conditions are expected to make road travel hazardous, even if snow accumulation is below the threshold; or when requested by a member of the Public Safety Team or the Director of Public Works to address man-made or natural disasters.

When the EAB implements a parking ban, the Town will provide advance notification via the Town’s website, social media accounts, email alerts and the town sign in front of the Town Hall. The Town will also send out an announcement via CodeRed.

The parking ban will remain in effect until the Department of Public Works (DPW) clears the roadways and declares them safe for regular travel. The lifting of the parking ban will be announced on the same channels and services used to announce the parking ban.

This new policy aims to acknowledge the importance of convenience without compromising safety by providing residents with more flexibility during milder weather conditions. However, residents must be proactive and cooperative during storms to facilitate efficient snow removal operations.

Proactive Measures for Storms

Residents are encouraged to sign up for CodeRed Community Notification Enrollment. CodeRED is a vital tool that delivers public emergency notifications directly to residents, keeping them informed and safe during critical situations.

If a storm is anticipated, residents are advised to take proactive measures by moving their vehicles ahead of time. This not only helps to avoid being snowed in but also prevents potential safety hazards to plows and ensures a smoother process for snow removal.

During officially declared parking bans due to storms, any non-compliant vehicles will be subject to a fine. This measure is essential for the safety of all residents and to maintain the efficiency of snow removal operations.

This collaborative effort between the Town and its residents aims to streamline regulations, ensuring a more resident-friendly approach to winter parking. By staying informed and working together, North Attleboro can uphold its commitment to the safety and well-being of the community while providing reasonable accommodations for residents.
