Town Manager Michael Borg is pleased to announce that Karen Testa has been appointed as the Town of North Attleborough's new Council on Aging director.
Testa was confirmed as North Attleborough’s new Council on Aging director during a Town Council meeting on Monday, April 22. She will begin her new role on Monday, May 6, at the North Attleborough Senior Center.
“Karen comes highly recommended and has extensive experience at the director level in a senior center setting,” Town Manager Borg said. “She has worked to further professionalize and enhance performances and services at prior senior centers to meet the needs of their community members, and we greatly look forward to bringing that same work ethic with her to North Attleborough.”
Testa has over 34 years of experience working in a senior center setting and has spent 24 years serving in a director-level capacity. She most recently served as the Town of Blackstone’s Council on Aging director. In this role, she oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Council on Aging while simultaneously expanding programming for seniors. Through her work, participation at the Senior Center increased by over 300%, and the membership of the Council on Aging Friends Group increased as well.
Prior to working for the Town of Blackstone, Testa previously worked at the Salvatore Mancini Resource & Activity Center in Providence, Rhode Island. She served as the assistant director from 1986 to 1998, during which she expanded Health & Wellness programs and increased partnerships with local businesses and colleges. She went on to become the executive director in 1998 and served in this position until 2018.
While serving as the executive director of the Salvatore Mancini Resource & Activity Center, Testa led the agency through a national accreditation process with the National Council on Aging’s National Insitute of Senior Centers. She also built strategic partnerships to promote the agency and events, averaging daily participation of 325 members.
She serves as a member of the National Council on Aging and was a past delegate council member at the National Institute of Senior Centers.
She attended the Katherine Gibbs School and Rhode Island College in Providence, Rhode Island.
