Town officials would like to share preparedness tips ahead of the forecasted nor'easter. A nor'easter is expected to impact the area beginning on Thursday, May 22, bringing steady rain showers and wind gusts up to 30 mph. Residents are encouraged to follow the below tips to ensure they're prepared ahead of any forecasted inclement weather:
- Ensure that you receive alerts, warnings, and public safety information before, during, and after emergencies to stay informed.
- Find out whether your property is in a flood-prone or high-risk area and if your community is at risk of flooding.
- Clean out street catch basins and gutters near your home to reduce the amount of water that collects.
- Elevate items stored in your basement to prevent damage. If you have a sump pump, check that it is working.
- Do not walk through flowing water. Most drownings occur during flash floods. Six inches of swiftly moving water can knock you off your feet.
- Report any damages to the Town’s BigRed311 platform.
- Stay away from downed utility wires. Always assume a downed power line is live.
As always, in the event of an emergency call 911.
