November 27th marks the eleventh annual Small Business Saturday, a day to support local businesses and help preserve neighborhoods. The "Shop Small" movement was started in 2010 to encourage holiday shoppers to spend dollars at small businesses during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and falls on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The movement is growing and a recent study showed that for every dollar spent at a small U.S. business with less than 100 employees, approximately 67 cents stays in the local community.
