Two-Alarm Fire on Oakhurst Street; Three-Alarm Fire on Wendy Drive
Chief Christopher Coleman reports that the North Attleboro Fire Department responded to two ongoing, significant fires concurrently this morning.
At 12:12 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, North Attleborough Fire received a report of a house fire with the possibility of two residents trapped inside the home at 50 Oakhurst St.
Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire in the wall, which extended into the attic of the multi-family home. A second alarm was immediately sounded, bringing in all on-duty North Attleborough firefighters and companies from surrounding towns.
Two residents were found on the second floor and were able to exit with the assistance of North Attleborough Fire and Police.
The fire was under control within 25 minutes of the crews' arrival. There were no injuries reported. The residents of this home are displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Mutual aid was provided by the Attleboro, Foxborough, Mansfield, Seekonk, and Cumberland, Rhode Island, fire departments. The Mansfield Emergency Management Agency also responded to the scene.
While firefighters were responding to the fire on Oakhurst Street, dispatchers received another report at 1:36 a.m. of a smoke alarm at 60 Wendy Dr. Subsequent calls reported a chair on fire in the home's basement.
Crews from the first fire, including North Attleborough apparatuses, Attleboro and Foxborough Fire, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found a two-story colonial with heavy smoke coming from the house and a large fire in the basement.
A third alarm was struck at this home, bringing crews from the Wrentham, Norton, Norfolk, Walpole, Plainville, Rehoboth, Franklin, Easton and Pawtucket, Rhode Island, fire departments. The Providence Canteen and Mansfield Emergency Management Agency provided relief for firefighters.
The fire was under control within 45 minutes. One resident received medical aid on scene but denied medical transportation. There were no other injuries reported. The residents of this home have been displaced and are being assisted by family.
Both scenes were cleared around 6 a.m. The two fires are under investigation by the North Attleborough Fire Department; however, they do not appear suspicious.
