[ARCHIVED] Healey-Driscoll Administration Requests Major Disaster Declaration for Bristol County

The Town of North Attleboro would like to share that Gov. Maura Healey has requested a Major Disaster Declaration from President Biden to support the ongoing recovery efforts of Massachusetts communities impacted by severe weather and flooding in September. If granted, this declaration would secure access to federal assistance programs for Bristol, Hampden and Worcester counties.

Under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, the President can declare a major disaster for any natural event they determine has caused damage that exceeds the combined capabilities of state and local governments to respond. A major disaster declaration provides federal assistance for individuals and public infrastructure through FEMA’s Public Assistance and Individual Assistance programs, as well as hazard mitigation assistance, which provides funding for eligible mitigation measures that reduce disaster losses.

"On behalf of North Attleboro, I would like to thank our local and state representatives for their diligent efforts in pursuing state and federal funding to address the impacts from September's storms," Town Manager Mike Borg said. "The town experienced significant damages as a result of the flooding that occurred, and our recovery efforts remain ongoing. We encourage community members to continue to reach out to their representatives for more information on assistance and proposed timelines."

On Dec. 4, Gov. Maura Healey also signed a $3.1 billion year-end spending bill which allocated $15 million in funding for impacted municipalities to assist with costs associated with the storms. At this time, the Town of North Attleboro is awaiting further guidance from our state legislators regarding how funds will be expended and the associated criteria. Further information will be shared once available.
