[ARCHIVED] Falls Pond Closed Until Further Notice Due to High Geomean

The Health Department reports that Falls Pond is closed for swimming until further notice. The beach was prematurely opened to the public on Thursday, July 24, following water quality testing that confirmed that E. coli levels at Falls Pond were within safe and normal limits. However, per state requirements, Falls Pond must be closed again as the geomean of its five most recent samples is still too high.

The Health Department is waiting for subsequent test results to determine if the geomean has lowered, allowing the beaches to reopen. For more information regarding geomeans, visit the Department of Public Health's webpage.

Please note that Whitings' E. coli levels and geomean are within normal values, allowing Whitings Pond to remain open.

Anyone with questions or concerns is encouraged to contact the Health Department at 508-699-0100 Ext. 2560.
