The Town of North Attleborough is pleased to announce that it was recently awarded a $1.5 million grant from the Massachusetts Gaming (MassGaming) Commission for roadway improvements on Route 152 and Route 106.
The grant will fund traffic control signals and paving in the area of George Leven Drive in North Attleborough to the Messenger Street intersection in Plainville as part of the town’s joint Route 152 & Route 106 Corridor Improvements Project with the Town of Plainville.
“Grants from the Community Mitigation Fund help cities and towns plan and execute essential projects for the benefit of all residents,” said Massachusetts Gaming Commission Chair Jordan Maynard. “This roadway improvement project in North Attleborough will bring needed traffic mitigation and pedestrian safety improvement to this busy thoroughfare, and I know I speak for my fellow Commissioners when I say we look forward to monitoring the progress of this project.”
As part of this project, North Attleborough and Plainville plan to add three extra lanes in Plainville going east, west and southbound while also widening lanes. The plan also includes the construction of new sidewalks and curbing along Kelley Boulevard and a pedestrian island near Plain Street. These improvements aim to enhance traffic flow to and from Plainridge Park Casino, which benefits both towns. Construction will begin in Fall 2025 and is planned to be completed by Spring 2026. The Route 152/Route 106 intersection in North Attleborough and Plainville is one of the busiest areas in these two towns. The area features a casino, residential developments, businesses, an industrial park at George Leven Drive and Plain Street, and a recently approved 304-unit apartment complex with 489 parking spaces, contributing to substantial traffic flow.
“Our Route 152 & Route 106 Corridor Improvements Project with the Town of Plainville is a significant initiative aimed at improving traffic flow for the benefit of our community; however, this is a challenging project to undertake without the support of our state partners,” Town Manager Michael Borg said. “On behalf of the town, we would like to thank the MassGaming Commission for funding this transportation project and supporting local communities.”
To date, the Route 152 & Route 106 Corridor Improvements Project has received $3.9 million from a MassWorks Grant, $100,000 from another MassGaming Grant, and $500,000 from a development agreement with Marcus Partners for the 304-unit apartment complex. North Attleborough and Plainville have also pledged funds to support this project.
In addition to its grant supporting the Route 152 & Route 106 Corridor Improvements Project, MassGaming also awarded the North Attleborough Police Department$72,350 for cameras and traffic speed signs to monitor speeding concerns related to Plainridge Park Casino along Route 152, Route 1 and Route 120.
North Attleborough Police will also use the grant to fund Use of Force, De-escalation and Implicit Bias training to ensure all officers have the knowledge and resources needed to conduct traffic stops using current best practices.
