[ARCHIVED] Rep. Scanlon to Host Informational Meeting on Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit

Rep. Scanlon is planning to host an informational meeting at the North Attleborough Council on Aging (204 Elm St, North Attleborough, MA 02760) on March 15 at 10 a.m. with a representative from the Department of Revenue to discuss updates to the senior circuit tax breaker tax credit.

Last year, the state legislature passed legislation that was signed by Governor Healey that welcomed much-needed reforms to our tax laws to provide relief for our residents. Rep. Scanlon is particularly proud of the positive reforms made to the senior circuit breaker tax credit. The senior circuit breaker is a refundable state income tax credit that is designed to prevent low to middle-income seniors from paying more than 10% of their income to local property tax bills/rent and water/sewer bills.

Rep. Scanlon had been advocating for improvements to the program through his own sponsored legislation ever since his first day in office. He was thrilled to get his legislation included in the omnibus bill that doubled the maximum allowable credit ($2,590 for the 2023 tax year) and mandated that it be indexed to inflation going forward. Rep. Scanlon and representatives from the Department of Revenue look forward to discussing the positive reforms at the Council on Aging and encourage anyone interested to attend.
