At its conclusion, Secretary of State John Hay (1838 to 1905) referred to the Spanish-American War (which lasted just over three months) as a "splendid little war." North Attleborough's monument to the conflict was dedicated on November 11, 1997. It is located on Kelley Boulevard in a small park at the entrance to Stanson Drive. It consists of a small bronze plaque mounted on a boulder. The inscription on the plaque is as brief as the war itself:
"Spanish-American War
1898
'Remember The Maine'"
Behind the boulder and plaque there is a flagpole. Two small flags and plantings are in front.
