Our commission members coordinate with the building inspectors department when an application to demolish a building that is at least 80 years or older is applied for. The Town's Demolition Bylaw requires us to determine if the building is historically or architecturally significant to the town. If so we can require the applicant to seek other alternatives to demolition and can delay the demolition for up to six months while the applicant explores other options.
A historic house marker is available to attach to your historic house. We need documentation of the history of your house if we do not have it in our files. Markers are offered for a $50 donation, which includes the cost of production. Contact our office if you would like a marker for your home.
